Youtube Finland Youtube Clips Finland

A Finnish court ruled against a 15-year-old student in a libel case on Friday after he posted a clip of his teacher on YouTube, ordering the youth to pay 800 euros ($1,085) in damages and a 90 euro fine.

The student had filmed his teacher singing at the school party last May and put the clip on YouTube with English subtitles under the headline “Karaoke of the mental hospital”.

This is the first time a Finnish court has found against someone based on a video clip published on the Internet.

The court said it had ordered reduced damages because the defendant was under 18 years of age and he had removed the clip from the Internet within two weeks at the request of the school’s headmaster.

Blogging in China

BEIJING : Blog service providers in China are “encouraged” to register users with their real names, a new government document said, toning down an earlier draft version that had banned anonymous online blogging.

At least 10 major Chinese blog service providers have agreed to sign the self-discipline pledge issued by the Internet Society of China.

Online bulletin boards and blogs are the only forum for most Chinese to express opinions before a large audience in a society where all media are state-controlled.

Videos and Microsoft

Videos and Microsoft

Microsoft is going to launch a rival video upload service, following the likes of Google, Yahoo, AOL

It’s entitled Soapbox.

It’ll let you upload videos up to 100MB in size, tag and categorise, embed videos, etc. etc. – so much the same as YouTube and the rest. It’s not clear whether MS will use their own Windows Media format or Flash. Flash would be more inclusive to Mac users (Windows Media Player is woefully maintained in Mac – existent but hardly cutting edge). Windows Media is, well, Windows.

Showcase talent on YouTube

LONDON: Manchester United have signed a gifted nine-year-old after his grandfather sent the Premier League champions a DVD showcasing the boy’s talents which has become a YouTube sensation.

The boy’s dribbling and goalscoring prowess for an Under-10 side in Brisbane, Australia, feature in a four-minute YouTube clip, already viewed more than 800,000 times.

Rhain Davis, who was born in England but has lived in Australia since the age of four, was hailed by the British press as the next Wayne Rooney after the United striker.

What was so unusual in Davis’s case was that his skills were brought to the attention of United’s youth scouts by the DVD submission, which could inspire other hopefuls.
