The law, which has 16 articles, also states that persons who illegally take others’ money or obtain bank and credit data will be jailed for three years and fined SR2 million. Persons who attack others’ private life using mobile phone cameras and the like and try to defame them will be sentenced to one year and SR500,000.

Those who use information technology to spread and market pornography face up to five years in jail and a SR3 million fine. Those who produce and distribute IT material that violate public law, religious values and public etiquette will also receive the same punishment.

Domain Tasting and Google

Domain Tasting and Google

Google is planning changes to its AdSense programme to clamp down on the practice of “domain tasting”.

Due to go into effect before the end of February, the new policy will mean that internet domains which are less than five days old will not be able to generate revenue through AdSense.

The problem of domain tasting arises from the five day grace period allowed new registrations, which allows those registering the domain to trial the name before paying the registration fee. Domain tasters use this period to assess the ad-generating potential of thousands of domains, dropping the less lucrative ones.

School Network Hacked Hong Kong

Hong Kong – A 14-year-old Hong Kong boy has been arrested for hacking into the computers of eight of the territory’s secondary schools, a news report said Thursday. The teenage computer whiz hacked into password-sensitive online forums where students and teachers exchange questions and answers.

He was arrested after the information technology company that provides computer services to the eight schools called in police after discovering the network had been hacked.

The boy told police he had hacked into the network “for fun” after being taught how to do it by a classmate. He is not believed to have stolen any sensitive or secret data.

Thinking of a Domain Name

Thinking of a Domain Name

According to reports at Tucows and DomainTools Blog and DotSauce and DomainState, if you search on a possible domain over at some popular domain registration sites, that service will almost instantly lock up the domain (if it’s not already sold) and demand $35 from you to register it with them — and won’t allow you to register it with some other, cheaper registrar for four days. Meanwhile, anyone else can grab it for that $35 fee.
