Police innovative methods in Australia

Australian police served a court order on an alleged cyber bully using the social networking site Facebook, officials said, describing it as a national first.

Victoria police got court approval to use the site after attempts to serve the order in person, over the telephone or via the post failed.

The “prolific” Facebook user was accused of, among other things, using the site to harass, bully and threaten another person, and police said they transcribed all the court documents and sent them to his Facebook inbox.

A video was also made of the order being read “as if the Respondent was being directly spoken to” and sent electronically to him.

Australia has almost nine million Facebook users.

Facebook Twitter and New Cyber Crime Threats

According to a report cyber threats boosted by Facebook and Twitter success.

It suggests that cyber criminals will this year target social networking sites and third-party applications, use more complex Trojans and botnets to build and execute attacks, and take advantage of HTML 5 to create emerging threats.

According to report Facebook, Twitter, and third-party applications on these sites are rapidly changing the criminal toolkit, giving cyber criminals new technologies to work with and hot spots of activity that can be exploited. The report believes users will become more vulnerable to attacks that blindly distribute rogue apps across their networks, and cyber criminals will take advantage of friends trusting friends to get users to click on links they might otherwise treat cautiously. The use of abbreviated URLs on sites such as Twitter make it even easier for cyber criminals to mask and direct users to malicious Web sites.

The blending of social media for business and pleasure increases the potential for network security troubles, and people, not technology, can often be the source.

Social Networking Facebook – Couples Misunderstanding

As a global social network, Facebook is designed to bring people together but according to a UK law firm specializing in divorce says nearly one in five cases they are working on involved a person’s activity on Facebook.

The most common reason seemed to be people having inappropriate sexual chats including flirty emails and messages posted on “walls.” with people they were not supposed to.

Social networking site Facebook outlined changes to its privacy policy recently and is now asking for feedback from its strong user base on the changes.

The company wrote in an official blog post that members will have until November 5 to send in their comments about the proposed changes.
